This course helps participants understand the sequence of tasks that must be managed carefully for the successful completion of a project in time. Critical Path Scheduling is an essential element of Time management. The project manager must plan, schedule and execute the activities to manage the project successfully by using Project Network Diagrams. Effective project management requires adequate time for planning that includes scope management and creation of work breakdown structure and use of the results in developing the Project Network Diagrams.

The project managers will learn how project activities are decomposed and then how the work packages are sequenced, calculated, and accounted for in Project Network Diagrams. They will also learn how to create time estimates for the work packages. They will acquire expertise in visual network diagramming and understanding of lag and lead time. They will learn how to identify the Critical Path. The following time management processes will be taught with major emphasis on critical path:

• Activity Definition
• Activity Sequencing / network diagramming to identify critical path, float, slack, lag and lead time
• Activity Resource Estimating
• Activity Duration Estimating
• Schedule Development
• Control Schedule

Learning Objectives
• Understand the WBS decomposition and creating the activity list
• Comprehend the Project network diagramming
• Be able to differentiate critical path, float, slack, lag and lead time
• Understand techniques of resource estimating
• Know the value of resource duration and how to attach it in the WBS dictionary
• Comprehend Project schedule development process
• Understand the schedule baseline
